We couldn’t be happier for Hampton’s Francena McCorory! She’s keeping the pace for 2016, winning the women’s world indoor title in the 400 meters Saturday in Poland with a time of 51.12.2 seconds.

“Francena had a turn of speed that nobody else in the field had,” BBC commentator Colin Jackson said. “She used it down the back straight. She just kept going away.”

McCorory, 25, qualified for the world championships after winning the U.S. indoor track title in the event in February. The Bethel High and Hampton University graduate won an Olympic gold medal in 2012 on the 4×400 relay squad.
