Our home by the sea will be the No. 16 seed in the Midwest Region and open against No. 1 Virginia at about 3:05 p.m. Thursday in Raleigh, N.C.
“We’re going to have to have a great week of preparation and a great week of focus,” HU coach Buck Joyner said. “They’re one of the best teams in the country and they have a shot to contend for a national championship. We’ll have to go in and do everything we’ve done to this point, but do it better.
“Our guys did a tremendous job and they got the ultimate (reward) by being able to play in the NCAA tournament. Now, I don’t want them to get satisfied with just that. Let’s go try to do more. I’m not saying we’re going to make history, but the only way you can is to get there.”
Hampton is 0-7 all-time against Virginia. The last time they played was in November 2013 — U.Va. won 69-40.
As our good friend Brian Darden said “It doesn’t matter who we play, I’m just ready to play… I’m just ready to show up. And I know my boys are ready to show up.”
